While I was in a crowded elevator the other day, I was serenaded by a chorus of sniffles. As I was wearing a heavy jacket, it was hard to believe that these snifflers could be suffering from allergies; but it’s true. Allergy season is upon us already. If you look at the allergy report for Charlotte, you will actually see that as we move into the weekend the allergy count gets higher and higher, with Sunday being the worst.By mid March, all of those who suffer from allergies will begin to feel the full brunt of those nasty little offenders. So what are allergies really? Allergies are diseases of the immune system. They cause the body to overreact to different substances whether it be food, pets, mold, pollen, dust mites etc. When someone has allergies, their symptoms can range from sneezing to hives and even more serious complications. The most typical symptoms also include; itchy, watery eyes, runny noses and sneezing, headaches and conjestion.
For many Charlotteans, peak allergy season begins in mid-February and lasts until may. People who have recently moved to Charlotte from somewhere else can be hit hardest because their bodies have not had a chance to make any antibodies… “Welcome to the South”. They don’t call us the “City of Trees” for nothing. It’s these beautiful old trees that cause so many of us misery. So what can you do to make your self feel better. Well you can start by trying to avoid allergens. This means keep your windows closed, take off your shoes before coming into your home, and wipe down your pets if they have been outside. But what about the allergens that find their way into your home anyway. Well there are tons of them and there is a more comprehensive solution.
The very best way to combat allergens inside your home is with a whole home air cleaners or purifiers. Heavy duty media air filters can filter out incredibly tiny particulant mater inside your home and trap it before it can recirculate through your HVAC system. Germicidal lights destroy mold and allergens that are in the air that moves through your HVAC system. This is what hospitals use to cut down on the risk of spreading infections. And then there is the Air Knight Purifier. This is the “Mack Daddy” of indoor air quality solutions, so to speak. It works with your heating and air system to scrub your air by emiiting hydro-peroxides molecules that destroy allergens and sterilize both the air and your indoor surfaces. The Air Knight acutally destroys 98% of the particles of a sneeze before they can travel 3 feet. With The Air Knight you can actually feel the difference in the air inside your home. It feels lighter. For a video on the Air Knight click here.
