Contrary to popular belief, spring is not the worst time of year for indoor air quality

If you struggle through allergies once the month of March rolls around, you may assume that spring is the worst time of year for indoor air quality – because the air quality is so bad outdoors. It’s a logical assumption, but not necessarily the case! Truth is, the air inside your home in the winter can be more polluted than the outdoor air. How is this?

In the winter, our homes are heated, sealed and often humidified. With no outside air to dilute emissions from household appliances, furnishings and cleaners, you may be breathing dirty air all winter long. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has named winter indoor air quality as a source of dangerous health complications, such as an increased risk of heart disease and pneumonia.

Luckily, improving your indoor air quality does not require you to open windows and doors to let the cold air in. MTB Mechanical is here to help with these tips:

Eliminate in-home pollution sources.

It begins with your choice of flooring. Remember that hardwood flooring is always better than carpet when it comes to keeping dust and pollen out of your home. In addition, be sure to read labels and purchase less toxic household cleaners. Most cleaning products can release fumes in the air that continue to circulate with nowhere to go. Finally, keep damp areas — such as your shower and basement — clean and mold-free.

Potentially polluting Items to avoid having in your home include candles that produce a lot of soot, many air freshener products and furniture constructed from pressed wood.

Install an air filtration and purification system.

Another effective way to improve indoor air quality is to install an air filtration and purification system. MTB Mechanical offers several products to help make your air cleaner and healthier.,. These products include whole home air purifiers, whole home humidifiers, dehumidifiers and more.

In particular, the HALO-LED™ whole home in-duct air purifier is the industry’s first LED in-duct, whole home air purification system that is both mercury free and zero ozone compliant. It proactively treats every cubic inch of air conditioned space, reducing airborne and surface contaminants and pollutants through bi-polar ionization and revolutionary, patent pending, REME-LED™ technology. Now is a great time to invest in this air purifier, because it comes with a special discount through March 31, 2022.

MTB Mechanical can help improve your indoor air quality year-round.
