Spring HVAC Checklist

Spring is around the corner. While most people use the new season as an excuse to pare down their belongings, don’t forget to check off these HVAC cleaning items as well. Here is MTB’s Spring HVAC checklist:Audit. Account for all your energy bills from the past season. If your unit is nearing the 15-year mark and is showing signs of aging (as evidenced by your higher energy bills), it may be time to start considering your options (repair or replacement).
Replace your filters. You should be replacing your filters every three months. If you aren’t already, now is a good time to start. Think you’ll forget to change it again when the time comes? Sign up for our free filter reminder. Changing your filters is one of the easiest preventative measures you can take to keep your HVAC system running efficiently. At the start of every new season, you should spend a little extra time inspecting and cleaning around your air filters as well. Don’t know what kind of filter to get? Choose one with at least a MERV 8 rating, as this protects your indoor air from allergens, which are in full force during the spring.
Clean around your HVAC unit. If there is debris and dust around your outdoor unit, it will circulate throughout your indoor air. Clean around it and make sure there are no blockages.
Dust. Avoid pesky allergens and dust your home. Don’t forget to dust your registers and return vents — they are responsible for circulating air throughout your home. Use a damp rag to clean the vents in every room. Dusting is a major box to check off, especially if you or someone in your family suffers from seasonal allergies.
Schedule a preventative maintenance appointment. The best way to get your unit in tip-top shape is to call an MTB professional to check it out and make sure it’s ready for the next season.
