There is nothing worse than having your heating system break down or not put off enough heat to keep your house warm during the winter. You suddenly find yourself throwing on more layers in an attempt to stay warm and hoping it’s not too cold to make your pipes freeze!Depending on whether you’re experiencing total heat loss or partial heat loss, your heating system problem could be very different.
All Heat Lost
To check and see if your heating system is just not working at all, put your hand over the vents in your home. Is there cold air coming out or just no air at all?
If there is cold air coming out of the vents, it could be an issue with the fuel supply or the furnace control systems. If it’s the fuel supply, contact the gas company. But if it’s the furnace control systems, it’s best to hire a certified technician as that’s a much more complicated issue.
If there is no air coming out at all, check the power switch or circuit breaker to the unit, if that’s not the problem then go ahead and schedule an appointment with a professional. A technician can look more closely at your heating system to find issues that could be causing problems. And depending on how old your heating system is, it might just be time to upgrade to a new system.
Partial Heat Lost
If you’re noticing that your heater seems to be running all day and that it’s only keeping the house moderately warm, you may be experiencing an airflow issue. Check your air filters and change them if they are dirty. If the problem persists, it’s time to call MTB.
