Baby It’s Cold Outside…So Consider This!

This winter the Charlotte area is experiencing typical seasonal temperatures. With the weather colder than usual, we tend to stay inside more and crank up the heat. It’s important to stay warm and cozy, so there are a few things to consider that can help you get the most out of your heating system.1) Dont overwork your heating system- This doesn’t mean you need to shut your system off for a rest. But you don’t want to crank your heater up as high as you can either. Forcing your heater up to a really high temperature, won’t heat your home up any faster, it will only keep your heater on longer. This puts too much stress on it. Find a lower temperature where you are comfortable. Perhaps add a light layer of clothing and then stick with that temperature. This will cause your heater to do a lot less work which translates into lower energy bills and fewer repairs. Before you go to bed at night, lower the temperature another 8 degrees or so. You will sleep better and save money on your power bill.
2) Upgrade your thermostat- If you stilll have a manual or older digital thermostat, it is time to upgrade to a new programmable one. This will give you improved control over the heat system in your home.
3) Sign up for a regular maintenance program- Annual maintnenance on your heating system is extremely important in keeping it running efficiently and in the case of a gas furnace, safely. Proper maintenace will help you avoid a costly and abrupt breakdown. Call MTB Heating and Air today to enroll in our money savings Energy Savings Agreement maintenance plan.
